Being an informed investor is an important message communicated by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA). The r CSA Investor’s Guide : cryptocurrencies prompts investors to understand crypto assets and make careful considerations before investing.

The Guide clearly states that crypto assets are high-risk investments that are not suitable for all investors and highlights their risks including:

  • Lack of regulation or regulatory compliance

  • Leverage (on-margin) trading risks permitted on some crypto asset trading platforms

  • Price volatility

  • Limited liquidity

  • Potential of loss through fraud, theft, hacking or human error due to its digital nature

Armed with this knowledge, investors may be able to make better informed decisions that are suitable for their risk tolerance and financial goals.
